Planning Guide

How Many Drinks Does a Coffee Cart Serve Per Hour?

A single professional barista on a mobile coffee cart can serve approximately 40 drinks per hour under normal event conditions. Here's how to use that number to plan your event.

Service Capacity by Setup

40 drinks/hr
1 Barista, 1 Cart
Best for up to 50 guests
60-80 drinks/hr
2 Baristas, 1 Cart
Best for 50–110 guests
110-160+ drinks/hr
3-4 Baristas, 1-2 Carts
Best for 110–300 guests

How to Calculate How Many Drinks You Need

Not every guest will order a drink — and some will order more than one. A good planning formula:

Morning corporate events (8am–11am)

Plan for 80–90% of guests to order. Coffee is the draw.

Midday events (11am–2pm)

Plan for 65–75%. Appetite for espresso drops after lunch.

Evening events and weddings

Plan for 70–80%. A coffee bar is enjoyed, not the main beverage for everyone.

Add a 10% buffer

Always build in extra. Running out of coffee at your event is memorable for the wrong reasons.

Example Planning Scenarios

100-person morning corporate event

80 expected orders ÷ 40 drinks/hr = ~2 hours of service needed. Or add a second barista to handle the rush more efficiently.

150-person wedding reception

90 expected orders ÷ 40 drinks/hr = ~2.25 hours. Two baristas on one cart reduces wait times and keeps lines moving.

50-person grand opening

40 expected orders ÷ 40 drinks/hr = ~1 hour. A standard 1-hour package covers this comfortably.
